Statement:
Moving Forward, Standing Still
Born in Taiwan and later growing up in New York City, I learned to navigate these fast-paced worlds with both patience and attentiveness. It is with the same approach and consideration I give to my image making. In Moving Forward, Standing Still, each photograph depicts an arrangement of figures in the landscape, interacting on a stage as if for a marked occasion. As a photographer, I've become the audience to which these dynamic moments are revealed. These scenes of everyday common and not-so common cultural revelations fill the frame to reveal a glimpse of what activities people are engaging in. It is the figures' interactions with one another, with what they are doing, what they are paying attention to, and how they situate themselves within the frame that I aim my lens. The pace at which the world moves forward is quite dizzying but we each have our own time and place within it to stand still.

Plans for your residency?
I will continue work on Moving Forward, Standing Still, and a book that is a collaboration with the poet Ann B. Knox. Titled Caught Moment, it was inspired by a photo I took in Norway in 2003. And I will come with a certain amount of openess to letting my work be inspired and influenced by the new surroundings and the type and amount of light that will be  constantly availble.

Plans for your residency?
Our plan is the realisation of the exhibition at Babel Art Space in Trondheim, on 15th of April 2010. The exhibition under title “On Use Value of Art” presents five positions of an artistic practice that comes to the breaking point with what is generally seen as art in its neoliberal contemporaneity. Exhibited works emerged as a result of collaborations that Ivan Basso, André Raatzsch, Sibylle Hofter, Rädle&Jeremić and Stephan Kurr have done together with other artists, young people and children from Serbia, France and Germany.
