[01.06.14 - 30.06.14] Robin og Matthew Luther - USA

“Our work is concerned with the ecology of human relationships within communities and human relationships with nature."

Robin og Matthew Luther fra USA

Name: Matthew and Robin Luther

Nationality: American

Homeland: United States of America

Town: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Age: 42 and 28

How long are you resident? From June 1 until June 30

Have you been in Trondheim before?

Robin has been to Trondheim in January of 2012 for a residency. This is Matthew’s first time in Trondheim, and our first collaborative residency together.

Do you wish to get in touch with somebody in Trondheim?

Robin looks forward to reconnecting with some friends made during her last trip to Trondheim. We both look forward to meeting, and hopefully getting the chance to collaborate with, all of the artists at LKV.

Is it something you look forward to…?

We’re really looking forward to devoting uninterrupted time to making art, getting to know, and potentially work, with local artists, and exploring Trondheim. We’re also really looking forward to our exhibition at Babel and the excitement, chance, and spontaneity that comes with putting an exhibition together in a short period of time.

About you work

Discipline: Video, Photography, Printmaking, Installation and Performance

Technique: We make sculptural costumes using recycled materials, like paper and cardboard, and perform in public with the pieces. We photograph and film the performances and use the collected footage for video, photographic, and print-based work.

Statement:  Our work is concerned with the ecology of human relationships within communities and human relationships with nature. Through art work that encourages playful participation we hope to interact with our audience so that they become part of the artwork’s narrative.

Plans for your residency? We plan to use salvaged cardboard to create a near life size replica of a Minke Whale. Once the whale is complete and with the help of other artists we would like to take photographs and video of the sculpture moving through the streets of Trondheim.
