[03.07.14 - 30.08.14] Pauline Martinet og Zoe Texereau- Frankrike

“Beyond the fact of sharing ideas and desires, working in pair is for us a way to get the act of drawing out of its usual solitary imperative, a manner of doing that desecrates the link between the drawing and its craftsman. We like rules, methods, lists. Together our designs create a non exhaustive directory of objects, places and architectures that leaves us, in its never fullfilled state, the freedom to expand it as we draw. Seriality and repetitions are important aspects of our work."

About you work

Discipline: Visual Art

Technique: Graphite on paper, photography

Statement: We are working together since 2008.
We use mainly drawing but also painting and photography. We are not trying to confront nor to create a dialog between our separate ways: we want to create a new common one. The discussion is so not on paper but beforehand, in the search period. The drawing is the conclusion.
The drawing is no longer spontaneous. There is more chance or freedom during its
development. We stand by the established set of rules and this rigorous protocol implying research, sketching and discussion grants equality in the sense of authorship of thedrawing.
Beyond the fact of sharing ideas and desires, working in pair is for us a way to get the act of drawing out of its usual solitary imperative, a manner of doing that desecrates the link between the drawing and its craftsman. We like rules, methods, lists. Together our designs create a non exhaustive directory of objects, places and architectures that leaves us, in its never fullfilled state, the freedom to expand it as we draw. Seriality and repetitions are important aspects of our work.
It then becomes the starting point of a search, a pretext for expanding the scope of our subject. Each drawing makes us cast a different look on these elements, valuing and distinguishing them. Our work is a backup, an attempt of distancing from insignificant, nonetheless memorable objects that are printed as more or less vivid memories. With simple means, we whish to shine a light on life’s simple things for the viewer to see past the blindfold of the usual and the poorly considered.

Plans for your residency?
We don't have plans for our residency time yet. We want to be surprised. It's for us the main interest of a residency: challenge our habits and let the unexpected come into our practice.
