[03.11.11 - 22.12.11] Michael Day - England

"The work that I make tends to look at the conversation between art and technology, and this often plays out in the moving image or in media-based artworks. I've been working with digital media since the early 90s, and recently I've been moving away from purely digital work and toward presentation strategies that are more reliant on space, juxtaposition and sequencing than on pure technology".

How long are you resident? From------ until------- ?
From November until December 2011.

Have you been in Trondheim before?
No

Do you wish to get in touch with somebody in Trondheim?
I'm keen to make connections with the art scene in Trondheim, and to find out a bit about the venues, colleges and the constituency of artists at work in the city. I’d also be interested in making contact with the TEKS centre and exploring the new media scene here.

Is it something you look forward to…?
Looking forward to walking in the city and being part of the LKV community.

About you work

Discipline: moving image, installation, sound, photography, electronics

Statement:
The work that I make tends to look at the conversation between art and technology, and this often plays out in the moving image or in media-based artworks. I've been working with digital media since the early 90s, and recently I've been moving away from purely digital work and toward presentation strategies that are more reliant on space, juxtaposition and sequencing than on pure technology. I'm really interested in the way that time plays out in the experience of viewing art, and I've recently been working with filmed landscapes (as well as other things) to explore this. One of the things I'm hoping to explore on the residency is the interruptive potential of technology: how it constantly demands our attention, and how this might subdivide or punctuate our experience of the world.

Plans for your residency?
I've been supported by Arts Council England to do the residency as a research and development activity for two solo shows in the UK next year, so I'm hoping first and foremost to produce some interesting and viable new work. I'm hoping that the landscape around Trondheim will feature in the new work I will be producing.
