"My work researches the emotional dependency relationships between the individual, objects and images. I am interested in tensions between different image-making systems, analogue and digital technologies and how they affect the way we understand images".

Hondartza Fraga fra Spania

Name:  Hondartza Fraga

Nationality: Spanish

Homeland: Spain (living in UK)

Town: Sheffield (UK)

Age: 27

Website: www.hondartzafraga.com

How long are you resident? February and March, 2 months

Have you been in Trondheim before? yes

Do you wish to get in touch with somebody in Trondheim? Yes, the more the better

Is it something you look forward to…? Two months of immersion in a new place, new sights, new people. Empty myself of preconceived ideas and start afresh with new works and take a lot, a lot of footage.

About you work

Discipline: visual arts

Technique: video, drawing, photography

Statement: My work researches the emotional dependency relationships between the individual, objects and images. I am interested in tensions between different image-making systems, analogue and digital technologies and how they affect the way we understand images. I am interested in the distortion and fragmentation intrinsic to analogue and digital imaging systems. Some of my imagery is generated directly from found objects like postcards, dollhouses or souvenirs and everyday items.

Plans for your residency? To get lost, to embrace a sort of blankness that will allow me to take on new perspectives about my work. Look, draw, film. I have been recently more and more interested as an artist in the effect that image-technology is taking on the meaning of journey and the theoretical impossibility of getting lost (GPS technology, webcam, mapping etc). It seems that the notion of disappearance is becoming more and more utopian and unreachable in theory, but this technology exposes the fragility of the individual and is an indication of the human fear of being lost and need for control. I would like to use the time in Trondheim to expand these concepts and to confront the romantic image of the traveler with today’s technology and reclaim the journey as real place in itself.
