[1.03.11 - 30.04.11] Andrèanne Fournier - Canada

"My current aesthetical and formal researches engage through sculptures and installations the act of sacrifice as depicted with a special emphasis on both the latent (psychological and physical) violence within it and also its proper beauty, romanticism and magnificence".

Andrèanne Fournier fra Canada

Name: Andréanne Fournier

Nationality: Canadian

Homeland:  Canada.

Town: Montréal

Age: 28

How long are you resident? From March 1st until April 30th ?

Have you been in Trondheim before? No, this is all new experience for me.

Do you wish to get in touch with somebody in Trondheim? Yes, anyone/everyone. I wish to meet artists from here and a public from here.

Is it something you look forward to…? It is difficult to look forward to something whereas you can’t really predict what will happen. But I am excited to be here, for sure.

About you work

Discipline: I am a sculptor for the moment, although I am having second thoughts about it.

Technique: Installation, sewing, thread, mouldings, it depends on the project.

Statement: My current aesthetical and formal researches engage through sculptures and installations the act of sacrifice as depicted with a special emphasis on both the latent (psychological and physical) violence within it and also its proper beauty, romanticism and magnificence. My works articulate a subjective and intuitive exploration of the notion of sacrifice as being the only (or most obvious) outcome of the impossibility to heal from grieving. I am challenged by the inner violence of sacrifice as the conclusion of the making of an emotive decision. Inspired by the deeply romanticized representations of sacrifice either through classical literature, tragedy, opera or ballet, sacrifice’s inner violence is then worn with a special aura of glory, love and majesty. In my view, sacrifice is driven by the willing and definitive choice of actively denying the use of survival instincts. In my view, sacrifice confirms the depiction of mourning grief as a dead-end featuring a definitive and irreversible rupture of trust with life and the continuity of time.

Plans for your residency? My plan for this residency is to think about my artistic process and statement. My works feature a large place to the process of their making. Therefore, I wish to reflect on their nature which would either be closer to the creation of material objects or to their own making as a performance.
