  LKV’S Showroom for Art
BABEL is LKV’s public façade; it’s neither a gallery in the strict sense nor a studio, but rather something in between. During the last year 15 guest artists have exhibited there, which makes Babel the international arena for art in this part of the country.

Opening at BABEL

In the spring 2006 Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder (LKV) created a new exhbition space in Trondheim at Mellomveien 4 called BABEL. About 100 meters from LKV. BABEL will show mainly LKV's guest artists: every year 10 - 15 artists from all over the world come to Trondheim and work here for 1-3 months. This means that Trondheim's art public now have direct access to a great variety of international art.

Babel will also show other exhibitions - the program is put together by a group of artists at LKV. Responsible for 2006: Mette Torvund, Astrid Findreng, Jan Eirik Evjen, Per Formo. Responsible for 2007: Grethe B. Fredriksen, Torhild Aukan, Markus Lantto, Anne Helga Henning, Merete Morgenstierne and Astrid Findreng.

BABEL's name was chosen primarely in thought of the guest artists - the idea is that a diversity of languages is a positive thing, a blessing for humankind - and not negative. Every language represents one way of seeing the world. We hope that we can contribute a little bit to the 'babel' in Trondheims art life.

BABEL and the guest studios are funded by Trondheim kommune and Sør-Trøndelag fylkeskommune.

If you are a LKV guest-artist – you have the opportunity to exhibit your work in BABEL. Last year 15 guest-artists showed their work and In addition, BABEL exhibits other special events, for excample parts of Trondheim Jazz festival.

BABEL IN COLLABORATION WITH NTNU (The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, located in Trondheim)
Babel has initiated a collaboration with three art history students, (Anja Johansen, Solveig Lønmo and Kristin Mandt Heim) who write art historical texts related to each exhibition. Babel sees this as a fruitful contribution to bringing written reflection on art to the fore. At the same time, the three students gain useful experience by writing about a great variety of artistic expressions.

Since its launching in 2006, thousands of visitors have visited Babel’s web pages, many of them repeatedly. The feedback has been favourable.
